Parents are too Permissive with Their Children

There are countless articles on childcare in magazines and newspapers. With so much unsolicited advice flying about, mum and dad just don’t know what to do any more. In the end, they do nothing at all. So, from early childhood, the kids are in charge and parents’ lives are regulated according to the needs of their offspring.

When the little dears develop into teenagers, they take complete control. If the young people are going to have a party, for instance, parents are asked to leave the house. Their presence merely spoils the fun. What else can the poor parents do but obey?

But remember: children are hardy creatures and most of them survive the harmful influence of extreme permissiveness, so think about it, you poor parents!

Advantages of Five-day Week

A five-day week has been put into practice in China, which is welcomed by most people. It is obvious that a five-day week has brought about many advantages to the society and people. Firstly, families have benefited from it very much. They have more time to spend together or go for an outing during the weekend. Children are able to learn useful skills, women have enough time to take care of the house, go shopping or relax.

Secondly, society has also benefited from it. As people have two days off, they would like to go shopping or traveling, which can promote the commerce and tourism. Then the shops and travel agency will have more customers.

Thirdly individuals have also enjoyed the benefit from the five-day week, because they have more time for whatever they want to do during the weekend.                                     For example, one likes stamp collection; he will have enough time to enjoy it. What’s more, individuals can make full use of a weekend for a good rest. Adequate rest will enable him to work more efficiently.

In a word, a five-day week is beneficial to the society, families and individuals.

Pollution

The world population is growing very fast. More food, clothing, houses are needed. Agriculture and industry, therefore, have to develop very quickly。Unfortunately; modem farming and industry are making the air, the soil, and the water dirty, which we called pollution.

Pollution is a serious danger to human lives. For example; throughout the world air pollution is   serious in all cities. It is said that every year factories pour millions of tons of smoke into the air, and， air pollution has taken the lives of many people.

Scientists are now fighting a battle against pollution. So far, it has been successful. Of course, the battle cannot be won unless every one of us understands the danger of pollution and does something to stop it.

Population Problem

The population problem may be the greatest challenge of the present time. In other words， people are being born faster than they are dying, or they are dying at a slower rate than they are being born. The average life span has doubled in the last 50 years. That people live much longer results in the serious population problem.

People around the world are becoming more concerned about the population explosion. It is hoped that there can be some control over the number of people that are born, but population control is a subject which touches the moral & religious beliefs of many people. Even if many families have fewer children, there will still be problems of food, water & power supply.

Anti-pollution Needs Your Efforts

People today are beginning to hear more & more about the problem of pollution. Pollution is caused either by the release of artificial substances into the environment(人造物質(zhì)的排放),or by increased amounts of natural substances, such as oil, from oil tankers into the sea.

Many people, therefore, see pollution as only part of a larger & more complex problem. Whatever its underlying reasons, it is no doubt that much of the pollution could be controlled if companies, individuals & governments would make more efforts. For instance, there is an obvious need to control litter & waste, which everyone can help to do by cutting out excess consumption & careless disposal of the products we use in our daily lives.

In a word, anti-pollution needs your efforts!
